Help kids trust God and overcome fear with a simple daily devotional resource

5-Day Devotional: You Are Safe

May 04, 20263 min read

This devotional is something you can sit down and do with your kids in just a few minutes, but what it builds doesn’t stay in that moment. It carries into the entire day.

As a homeschool mom, I’m with my kids often. I see their emotions up close. I notice when they feel unsure, when something makes them anxious, or when they simply need reassurance. Over time, I’ve realized that what they need most in those moments is truth. Not just once, but consistently, spoken into their hearts again and again.

Scripture says, “When I am afraid, I put my trust in You.” That is something our kids can learn early. They can know what to do when fear shows up. They don’t have to figure it out on their own. They can be anchored in truth.

Using this devotional is simple. You can sit down together in the morning, during homeschool, or even at bedtime and walk through one day at a time. Read the Scripture out loud, take a moment to read the truth slowly, ask the question, and pray together. It only takes a few minutes, but it sets something in place that carries beyond that time.

Where it really becomes powerful is in the everyday moments that follow. When your child feels scared, unsure, or overwhelmed, you can bring them back to what they heard. You can remind them that God is with them and that they are safe in Him. This helps them connect what they’ve learned with what they’re actually experiencing, and over time, that connection becomes natural.

This approach fits easily into your day. It doesn’t need to feel forced or rigid. Sometimes it starts the morning, other times it’s something you come back to in the middle of the day when a situation arises. It becomes part of how you lead your home rather than another task to complete.

Many nights, we also come back to it at bedtime. There is something powerful about ending the day by reading truth, praying together, and speaking peace over your children before they fall asleep. It helps settle their hearts and gives them something steady to rest in.

An important part of this process is allowing your children to talk. When you ask questions, give them space to answer in their own way. Sometimes their responses are simple, and other times they reveal something deeper that needs to be addressed. In those moments, you’re not just teaching them—you’re walking with them and helping them process their thoughts through truth.

Over time, you begin to see a shift. Your children start to feel more secure. They begin to trust God more naturally. You may even hear them repeating truth on their own without being prompted. What was once something they heard from you becomes something they begin to carry for themselves.

As a parent, you are shaping your children every single day. When you consistently speak truth into their hearts, you are giving them something solid to hold onto. You are building a foundation that will support them in moments of fear, uncertainty, and growth.

At its core, this is about raising children who trust God, who know they are not alone, and who carry a sense of peace because they understand who is with them. This devotional is simply one practical way to begin building that into your home.

Guard their hearts.

Hello! I’m Elle Angel. I’m an author, speaker, and podcaster, but at the core of it, I’m just a mom who cares deeply about what gets planted in people’s hearts, especially kids. I’ve spent years teaching in both formal and informal school settings, as well as serving in kids ministry. I honestly love the sweetness and honesty of kids, and yes, even the chaos that comes with it. There’s something about it. It’s loud and messy and full, but it’s real.

What gets me every time is when something clicks for a child. You can literally see it on their face. The moment they understand something new, the moment it makes sense, the moment they feel it. It’s like a light turns on.
And when that “click” is about who they are in God, or how much Jesus loves them… there’s nothing like it.
