Recovering from trauma can take a long time and it can be especially difficult when you’re faced with painful memories you’re not sure what to do with.
I remember when I was healing from my past, I had so many suppressed memories surfacing.
It felt like I had to relive the trauma all over again.
It was overwhelming and retraumatizing.
If you’re feeling that way, please know that you’re not alone.
Here is a prayer to help you through it.
A Prayer For Healing Painful Memories
Father,
I call on you now to help me.
Sometimes I feel like the memories of the past threaten to drown me.
The sadness, the fear and despair overwhelm me.
But you promised that even when we go through deep waters, you will be with your children (Isaiah 43:2) These waters will not drown me in pain.
I reach out to you Abba.
Take my hand like Jesus took Peter’s when he sank in the stormy sea. (Matthew 14:31)
My heads gone under, Lord.
But your presence is mightier than any wave.
Calm the storm within me, Jesus (Mark 4:39). Give me your perfect peace. Hold me with your perfect hands.
Redeem this painful past so that it glorifies you, Abba. Only you know the masterpiece you can turn me into.
I want to shine the light of Christ with every step I take, every word I say and every thought I think (Matthew 5:14)
I don’t know how that can happen with all this pain and emotion from my past but that’s ok. You do.
You redeem all things for the good of those who love you and are called according to your purpose and my past is no exception (Romans 8:28).
I fall into your arms today and I let it all go.
Turn my pain into something beautiful give me beauty for my ashes, Lord (Isaiah 61:3)
I trust you.
In Jesus’s name.
Amen
